Symbolically Adopt a Panda

It is estimated that only about 1,864 pandas remain in the wild today. This shy cuddly bear-like icon – and the animal featured on WWF’s logo – was once found in large numbers across southern and eastern China and neighbouring Myanmar and northern Vietnam. Sadly, due to expanding human populations and development, the species is now restricted to around 20 isolated patches of bamboo forest in six mountain ranges in China’s Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces.

Threats to pandas include:
• Habitat loss and fragmentation due to land-use changes.
• Inbreeding as pandas are forced to stay in smaller regions.
• Instability of bamboo forests, which are the panda’s only natural habitat.

With your symbolic adoption, you’re helping WWF-Malaysia to highlight the importance of saving endangered species around the world. There is still hope: while the number of pandas in the wild is still very low, this represents a real success story, with numbers increasing from around 1,000 in the late 1970s. With your support, we can save the panda.
