Fossil records show that orangutans have been here on Earth for more than 800,000 years and populations once spread from China to as far as Sulawesi.

Today, orangutans in the wild can only be found on the islands of Borneo and Sumatra.

Orangutan numbers are declining due to:
• Habitat destruction caused by land-use changes for timber harvesting and monoculture plantations.
• Hunting by farmers in retaliation for the destruction to their crops.

Symbolically adopt an orangutan today and help WWF-Malaysia to:
• Carry out restoration of logged-over and fire-impacted forest area by replanting a mixture of native tree species.
• Promote protection of crucial habitats.
• Increase awareness on orangutan conservation.
