Play is an integral part of a Bornean elephant herd. Elephants are a social species, often traveling in herds in search of food and shelter. The routes that they choose to travel on are determined by the knowledge and experiences that are passed down from generation to generation. Even when those routes are converted from their habitat into roads meant for human use, the elephants will still journey through them. This is a potential point of conflict between humans and elephants, and can further threaten the Bornean elephant population in Sabah, currently numbering at only 1,500.
