Symbolically Adopt a Tiger

There were 100,000…

Today, there are almost none left.

Save our Malayan tigers.

They are the emblem of strength and bravery; apex predators that ensure the balance of the forest ecosystem. Due to unsustainable land-use practices and poaching, they are losing their habitat.

The animal that appears on the Malaysian Coat of Arms, and the national football team symbol. Please help save our magnificent Malayan tigers and their habitat; your symbolic adoption will help:

• Secure funds for tiger monitoring and anti-poaching efforts
• Monitor the land-use change surrounding tiger habitat
• Increase awareness on the importance of tiger conservation

Symbolically Adopt a Panda

It is estimated that only about 1,864 pandas remain in the wild today. This shy cuddly bear-like icon – and the animal featured on WWF’s logo – was once found in large numbers across southern and eastern China and neighbouring Myanmar and northern Vietnam. Sadly, due to expanding human populations and development, the species is now restricted to around 20 isolated patches of bamboo forest in six mountain ranges in China’s Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces.

Threats to pandas include:
• Habitat loss and fragmentation due to land-use changes.
• Inbreeding as pandas are forced to stay in smaller regions.
• Instability of bamboo forests, which are the panda’s only natural habitat.

With your symbolic adoption, you’re helping WWF-Malaysia to highlight the importance of saving endangered species around the world. There is still hope: while the number of pandas in the wild is still very low, this represents a real success story, with numbers increasing from around 1,000 in the late 1970s. With your support, we can save the panda.

Symbolically Adopt a Sun Bear

The Malayan sun bear, named for the golden crescent patch of fur on its chest, is the smallest among the eight species of bears found worldwide. It can be found in Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia.

The Malayan sun bear’s omnivorous diet helps to keep forests healthy:
• By consuming a large variety of fruit species, they help to disperse seeds.
• Since termites are their primary food source, they keep termite populations in check, thus enabling tropical trees to grow and thrive.
• They dig for insects such as beetles and ants in the soil, which enhances the forest’s nutrient cycle through the mixing of rich and poor soil.
• They help create nesting sites for animals such as hornbills and flying squirrels by tearing open tree trunks to reach the honey inside.

Sadly, the Malayan Sun Bear is threatened by:
• Habitat loss due to forest conversion for urban development and monoculture plantations.
• Poaching; this adorable bear is cruelly killed and exploited for its bile, meat and bones.

Although WWF-Malaysia does not have a dedicated Sun Bear project, our conservation efforts that focus on species such as the Malayan Tiger benefit all the wildlife living in our forests. Your symbolic adoption will enable WWF-Malaysia to:
• Secure funds for monitoring and anti-poaching efforts
• Promote the protection of crucial habitats
• Build awareness and support for wildlife and forest conservation

Symbolically Adopt a Turtle

Marine turtle numbers continue to plummet in most parts of the world and some populations are on the brink of extinction due to:
• Loss of nesting and feeding habitats
• Egg-collection for consumption
• Fishery-related mortality and pollution

In the 1950s, some 10,000 Leatherback turtle nests were recorded at Rantau Abang, Terengganu. There have been no recorded nestings of Leatherbacks since 2011.

We cannot afford to let our Hawksbill, Olive Ridley and Green turtles suffer the same fate. It is not too late to help these majestic species. You have the power to save their lives; symbolically adopt a turtle today and help WWF-Malaysia to:
• Monitor and patrol nesting beaches to minimise the sale and consumption of turtle eggs
• Conduct research to understand marine turtle habitats and biology, and enhance conservation efforts
• Continue our efforts in calling for stronger and more holistic laws to protect turtles

You can be a part of the fight to save this national icon. Together, we can ensure that these ancient mariners are around for generations to come.
